Worksite Tour:

Bullet Tour time frame is generally 1-2 hours.
Bullet When the group arrives, give a general overview of your company (15-20 minutes): what service do you provide or what do you produce, number of employees, how long in business, annual sales, etc.
Bullet Review any safety requirements.
Bullet Inform students about the tour they are about to take. Should they look for anything in particular? Will it be noisy, dark, bright, do they need to be quiet in a certain area, etc.
Bullet You may wish to give students an "assignment" while on tour. For example, give them a camera and have them take pictures, give them a list of items they should find while on tour, write down questions they may have, etc.
Bullet Divide students into groups for the tours. Generally speaking, groups of eight or fewer work best for interaction.
Bullet Have your employees who will be conducting the tour ready to go and with a planned time to meet back with the large group.
Bullet Keep the tour timely - the schools have a schedule to maintain as well.
Bullet Allow time at the end of the tour for students to ask questions.
Bullet Distribute the evaluation forms and get feedback on the quality of the worksite experience at the end of the tour.
Bullet After the students have left, debrief with the employees who participated. How was the experience for them? Are there areas that could be improved? Any feedback to the educational institution that will improve the experience in the future?
Bullet Send copies of your evaluations to the Workpaths.com consultant(s).
Bullet Share your experience with us today! We want to hear about your Work-Based Learning (WBL) experience! Share it with us here.
